The holiday season is officially over and although we had a blast, we are definitely feeling the effects of late nights, indulgent treats, and just a few too many adult beverages. We are guessing you may feel the same? Not only do these things cause you to feel run down and bloated, but you may notice your skin is a bit out of whack too. Overindulging can affect your skin in many ways but there are also many ways in which you can combat it!

There are two main indulgences during the holidays that affect your skin: lots of sugary & greasy foods and frequent alcohol consumption.

Overindulging on sugary and greasy foods:

Everything from the savory hors d’oeuvres down to the sugar cookies coated oh-so perfectly in frosting are hard to say no to during the holidays. And although we would love to go back and say no to that second round of bread pudding, the only thing we can do is get over it and move on. If you are like many of us out there who like to indulge a little too much, your skin may be freaking out. It is widely known that breakouts along the cheeks and bridge of the nose are often due to what we consume and sugary and fatty food is often to be blamed.

To help combat these types of breakouts, be sure to stick to a strict diet of mainly vegetables and protein for at least a week. Cutting out sugars, even those that occur naturally in fruit, will be crucial to helping reverse the effects of holiday binging. In conjunction with this diet, use our Deep Cleansing face mask twice a week to help clear up your blemishes without drying out the skin, and use our Soothing face mask every night as a sleep mask to calm down your skin. Not only will your skin look better, you will feel better as well.

Overindulging on alcoholic beverages:

Celebrating the holidays with family and friends often consists of many late nights and a few, or more, cocktails. Although we know how excessive alcohol consumption can make us feel the next day, the effects it has on the skin is often overlooked. Because alcohol is a diuretic, it can dehydrate your skin, making it appear dull and feel extremely dry. To reverse the effects on the skin, be sure to drink a lot of water. And we mean A LOT. Your body needs to be sufficiently hydrated in order for your skin cells to reap the benefits of your water intake, so be sure to keep a large glass of water by your side at all times and refill when necessary. To re-hydrate your skin, use our Hydrating face mask at least twice a week or use it for a full week each night as an overnight sleep mask. To use this facial mask as a sleep mask, simply apply a thin layer to the skin, as you would your nightly moisturizer, and let it sink into the skin before bed. For an extra boost for your skin, apply the revitalizing mask in the morning for a fresh, plump look and feel and a radiant post-holiday glow.

Cleansing to reverse the effects of overindulging:

A juice cleanse is a great way to get your body back on track after an unhealthy holiday season. Consuming the necessary vitamins and minerals your body needs after nights of overindulging is key in recovery. A three day juice cleanse can help bring back that glow and dewiness your skin has been lacking since Thanksgiving, as well as help reduce bloating and remove any fogginess in your mind. Choosing a juice cleanse that is made up primarily of green juices and nut milks is best. Try to steer clear of juices heavy in fruits because like we said, staying away from fruit sugars is vital in clearing up breakouts. Try to supplement your juices with dandelion tea which is great for clearing up the skin as it helps to regulate hormones and remove toxins from the body.

The holiday season is such a wonderful time to celebrate the love you have surrounding you, but now its time to give your body and skin a little bit of love.
